What a Marvelous Idea!

A physics teacher in high school once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, but a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following......


This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value.. " I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price.. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA by a company in Cleveland, Ohio.


So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets ... . . Yep, you guessed it, bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!


I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it, I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking.
In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else -- even their job.


My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now.
I do not buy it any more.


My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico .... Now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything. My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA- the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!


(We should have awakened a decade a go.)

After Easter

A pause for a cup of coffee here on my less that perfect sun deck as life unfolds. I saw a glimpse of one day being on a deck at Fernwood, with my early morning vespars (I'll call it). I can't wait but how much more must I endure before it comes to fruition? Can I survive that long? Will there always be battles to fight in fear, doubt and emptiness?
Yesterday was  not perfect but we were together and that felt pretty near perfect. Why can't pretty near perfect be good enough? Some people never even have that!
Choice (my word focus for the year) is mine. Make the most of it or suffer the by products of lack of control, fearful living and doubting faith. I MUST CHOOSE to see hope, good, possibility and all the blessings I still have. Life has a funny twist at every corner. If it were a gook every chapter would unfold into uncertainty but should that not make the read all that more exciting? Complacency leads to lost feelings of compassion and wisdom and beauty.
i know the best lessons are learned through trials. But OH! How I fight it rather that giving in to it and just riding it out on a floating raft of hope......

Sunday Reflection gives perspective for week ahead

As I walk, the birds sing praises for the morning light



But my soul dwells in the pitch black of night.


Carolina blue skies point the way to heaven’s glory


But my heart sinks into sheol’s despair.


Blossoms burst forth with amazement at creation


But my spirit dwindles in bitterness of disappointment.


Then I sit in church in stillness of all my thoughts and


The organ plays O FOR A THOUSAND TONGUES TO SING…


LEAP YE LAME FOR JOY….and


Suddenly my soul lightens….


All at once my heart lifts…. And


Finally my spirit swells again.


God has made me whole.

You can always choose your perspective!

Choose today:

One small change of attitude.

One small change of outlook.

One small change of perspective.

One small change of direction.

One small change of priority.

Then experience:

One small change of pace.

One small change of focus.

One small change of thought.

One small change of hope.

One small change of self.

I eat but my stomach is never satiated.

I laugh but my life is never happy.

I cry but my heart is never consoled.

I sleep but my body is never rested.

I pray but my soul is never relieved.

I believe but my spirit is never lifted.

If broken hearts could kill I’d be dead by now.

If souls could never be found I’d be gone and forgotten.

If weakened spirits could cease to exist I’d not even be a distant memory.

If a distracted mind could disappear all together I would be “who?”

We all carry scars of life’s injuries.

Bruises cover us from living through daily crises.

Not every pain has a coordinating pill.

Hurt is inevitable if we are breathing.

The heart’s and soul’s muscles are highly susceptible to pulling beyond their limits.

Our spirit is often cut to its core; but we still have choices to make.

Someone wise once said, “you can choose to be better or bitter.”

Allow yourself a choice to choose wisely.
